Former Ford Engineer Don Ufford: “Michigan Families Are Paying for Trump’s War with Iran. Congress Needs to Step Up.”
Oakland County, Michigan — Gas prices in Michigan jumped 25 cents in just two days this week, climbing from $2.99 to $3.24 per gallon as oil prices surged following the Trump Administration’s escalating war with Iran.
Former Ford engineer and Democratic candidate for Congress Don Ufford said Michigan families are already paying the price for a war that the American people never asked for. “Michigan families just saw gas prices jump twenty-five cents in two days because of Trump’s reckless new war in Iran,” Ufford said.
Ufford, who spent decades working on vehicle engineering programs at Ford improving fuel efficiency and lowering costs for drivers, said the conflict threatens to drive up prices across the entire economy.
“When oil prices spike, everything gets more expensive. Gas gets more expensive. Shipping gets more expensive. Groceries get more expensive. Families who are already struggling to afford the basics are the ones who pay the price,” Ufford said.
Ufford said the American people deserve answers before the country is dragged deeper into another costly war.
“What is this war for?” Ufford said. “No one has explained why American families should be paying more for gas and groceries, or why we need to send our sons and daughters off to war at this moment. The President is out of control, and Congress refuses to step up. It’s time to send new leaders to Washington, who will end this war, lower costs for families, and solve our problems here at home.”
“I spent my career in factories and engineering labs working on how to make vehicles more efficient so families could spend less at the pump,” Ufford said. “I didn’t spend my career in the halls of Congress playing political games, kicking the can down the road, and simply asking for reports from the White House. It’s time to step up. We cannot afford another forever war.”
