Don Ufford on Jobs Report: “Manufacturing Jobs Are Falling While Washington Plays Politics.”
Oakland County, Michigan — Following the February employment report showing the U.S. economy lost 92,000 jobs, including 12,000 manufacturing jobs and 11,000 construction jobs, Democratic candidate for Congress and former Ford engineer Don Ufford warned that Trump’s economic chaos is hurting Michigan workers.
“We’ve now lost more than 100,000 manufacturing jobs nationwide since Trump took office. That hits Michigan especially hard,” Ufford said. “Trump’s tariff taxes and Gordie Howe Bridge closure are wrecking our supply chains. He’s cancelling investments that were creating clean energy and advanced manufacturing jobs here at home. I spent my career building cars and creating jobs at Ford Motor Company. I know how hard these chaotic policies hit our community. This is personal, and I’m running to fight back.”
“This is what economic chaos looks like,” Ufford continued. “Workers lose jobs while Washington plays politics.”
Ufford spent decades working on vehicle engineering programs at Ford and later worked at the U.S. Department of Commerce strengthening American manufacturing and supply chains.
“In the auto industry, you learn quickly that uncertainty kills investment,” Ufford said. “When Washington creates chaos, companies delay projects, factories slow down, and workers lose jobs.”
“I spent my career building things alongside engineers and skilled trades workers,” Ufford said. “Michigan should be leading the world in manufacturing, construction, and clean energy. Instead, working families are being left to deal with the consequences of Washington’s mistakes.”
