Don Ufford On Trump’s Iran Attacks: “We Cannot Afford Another Forever War.”
Oakland County, Michigan — Following the Trump Administration's attack on Iran, congressional candidate Don Ufford is calling for an immediate vote in Congress to prevent this attack from becoming another forever war.
“We were told in June that the Administration’s operation against Iran would be one-and-done. That was a lie. Congress must stand up. No president gets to launch a war without Congressional authorization,” Ufford said. “Our sons and daughters in uniform are in harm’s way. If we don’t stand up now, how many more American lives will this President be willing to put at risk?”
Ufford warned that a war with Iran will have immediate consequences for Michigan families. “The Administration will try to say this conflict will be quick and contained. We don’t know that. The lives of our American servicemembers are at risk, and America could be on the hook for billions in costs trying to end this war and rebuild Iran. Iran’s authoritarian regime has long destabilized the region, sponsored terrorism, and cannot be allowed to build a nuclear weapon. But going to war requires Congressional authorization. That’s the Constitution.”
“This is also a distraction from real problems we have at home. Families cannot afford healthcare, childcare, groceries, and other essentials. Trump’s corrupt administration is doing nothing to strengthen our economy or make life better for Michiganders.”
Ufford also called on other candidates in the race to take a clear position. “I am calling on every candidate in this race to state clearly that they are against this illegal attack. The American people deserve to know where we stand as the lives of our servicemembers are put at risk. It’s time for Congress to stand up.”
